Meg Ryan plays Louise in Serious Moonlight, a successful New York City attorney. Louise is touched when she arrives at the family's getaway house in upstate New York and it is completely decorated in rose petals.

SheKnows is proud to present an exclusive clip from the Meg Ryan film.

Timothy Hutton plays opposite Ryan as her husband of 13 years, Ian, who is not expecting his wife -- those rose petals are for his much-younger girlfriend. When Louise arrives and soon after the rose petal warm had waned, she discovers Ian writing a letter to her informing her that he is leaving for good.

Meg Ryan and Timothy Hutton in Serious Moonlight, out December 4

Ryan as Louise takes things into her own hands and kidnaps Ian until he is ready to seriously talk about saving their marriage. Things only become more complicated when Kristen Bell as Ian's girlfriend, shows up wondering what has happened to her man. Drew Barrymore's guy, Justin Long, plays a gardener who happens upon the situation and decides to make some money off of the spousal cheating turned kidnapping.

Serious Moonlight is directed by Cheryl Hines of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame from a screenplay written by Adrienne Shelly.

Shelly is the wordsmith behind Waitress, the film that Hines also starred in and made Keri Russell a movie star. The screenwriter was tragically killed in her New York apartment and never even saw Waitress hit the big screen.

Witnessing Serious Moonlight when it debuts December 4 in theaters everywhere, as well, audiences can check out Serious Moonlight currently on Video on Demand, Amazon.com and Xbox Live.

Serious Moonlight stars Meg Ryan and Cheryl Hines from a screenplay by Waitress scribe Adrienne Shelly. Actress Hines was honored that her first foray into directing was at the head of bringing Shelly's next script to life.

Cheryl Hines finds Serious MoonlightHines sat down with SheKnows for an exclusive chat about Serious Moonlight, directing Ryan and how the short life of Shelly changed her own forever. Shelly died fighting off an intruder in her New York City apartment before Waitress premiered.

Hines is a product of the Los Angeles improv group The Groundlings and became a television icon for her portrayal of Larry David's wife on HBO's groundbreaking Curb Your Enthusiasm. Hines' Cheryl on Curb Your Enthusiasm is only one spoke in the talented wheel that is this superb multi-faceted artist. Now that she adds director to her titles, Hines has Hollywood standing up and taking notice.

SheKnows: Thanks for visiting with SheKnows.

Cheryl Hines: Thanks for having me, Joel.

SheKnows: When did you first become familiar with Adrienne's Shelly script for Serious Moonlight? Maybe while making Waitress?

Cheryl Hines: I was actually doing publicity for Waitress. I was in Paris. The film was had opened in Paris and I was there when I read this script. I remember so well because I was in a hotel and I was jet lagged and I couldn't sleep. So, I started reading the script. And I loved it so much, I stayed up and read it again.

SheKnows: Wow.

Cheryl Hines: I just loved it.

SheKnows: At that point, had it even crossed your mind to direct Serious Moonlight?

Cheryl Hines: Actually, Andy Ostroy who was married to Adrienne, wanted to produce this film and Michael Roiff -- who produced Waitress with Adrienne -- they asked me before I had even read the script.

SheKnows: Oh, you're kidding?!

Cheryl Hines: They wondered if I was at all interesting in directing a film that Adrienne had written.

SheKnows: Considering you hadn't directed before…

Cheryl Hines: Yeah…

SheKnows: They must have been taken with you and your talent while filming Waitress.

Keri Russell, Adrienne Shelley and Cheryl Hines in 2007's Waitress

Cheryl Hines: I don't know what it was…

SheKnows: Maybe your keen understanding of her words…

Cheryl Hines: Well, you know what. That's what I like to think it was actually. I really appreciate Waitress and the work that Adrienne did on that film and her writer. I love the way she writes…the way she wrote . They knew that from working with me on Waitress -- especially, when Waitress started getting out there and hitting audiences. They did a lot of PR for the film and talked about Adrienne.

SheKnows: How did you find Adrienne while working with her on Waitress?

Cheryl Hines: We were in scenes together in Waitress and she wrote, starred, directed in Waitress.

SheKnows: But, she never got to see it completed.

Cheryl Hines: She did. She didn't get to see it with an audience.

Cheryl Hines and her daughter CatherineSheKnows: What struck you most about you about your time with Adrienne Shelley?

Cheryl Hines: Well, she was a very intelligent, funny person. I love that.

We both laugh.

Cheryl Hines: She also had a daughter the same age as my daughter. Our daughters played together a little bit. And then, when we were shooting Serious Moonlight, they became really good friends.

SheKnows: When you were thinking about shooting Serious Moonlight, and I'm sure a lot of names got tossed around, but when that final Meg Ryan, Timothy Hutton and Kristen Bell came back from casting, you must have been thrilled as a first-time helmer?

Cheryl Hines: Oh my gosh. I was elated! I was literally jumping up and down .

Up next…Cheryl dishes on how Serious Moonlight's story resonates with today's take-charge woman.

Meg Ryan and Tim HuttonCheryl tackles a Serious story

SheKnows: The story of Serious Moonlight has been creating quite a lot of buzz. How do you think it plays to what women are going through in today's world?

Cheryl Hines: It's a fun movie to watch because there are a lot of women and some men who have to knock out their spouse and tie them up and make them listen to what you have to say to them . There's a little bit of a fantasy playing out in this film. Also, Adrienne wrote about a woman who was doing it all. Louise, she has a great career. She's independent and as Ian says can "bench press more than he can." But, he says, "You don't need me." She says, "I love you. Isn't that better?" And he says, "No. It's not better." It's interesting because I think there are a lot of women out there they are independent, making it happen and they're not expecting a guy to ride in a white horse, much less a guy who says he wants to ride in a white horse. It's an interesting situation.

SheKnows: It is, and it is unique for our times. Creating a new dynamic in an already complicated world of male-female relationships.

Cheryl Hines: Yes! Yes!

Comic chemistry 101

SheKnows: You've worked along some real comic greats including Larry David, of course and you keep step with them every step of the way. I was wondering if your early background was in comedy performance?

Cheryl Hines: Yeah, I studied in The Groundlings theater here in Los Angeles. They do sketch comedy and improv.

SheKnows: As you've worked with the likes of Megan Mullally, Jeremy Piven and Robin Williams, have there been experiences that have inspired you as a comic artist?

Cheryl Hines directs Timothy Hutton in Serious Moonlight

Cheryl Hines: I remember one day on the set of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I was supposed to walk into a room and catch Larry with his hands on this woman's' bare breasts because she just got breast implants and wanted to him to feel them. When I walked into the scene and Larry said, "Why don't you come in carrying something?" He thought it would be funnier. They gave me this tall plant to carry to come into the scene and it was funnier. It made me think, "Oh, yeah, comedy is so visual and even little details that I'm sure if you're sitting in your living room." You're not thinking, "Oh, that's hilarious that she walked in carrying a plant." But, for some reason, it did the make the scene funnier. It made me think of comedy in a broader way.

SheKnows: Almost adding a third dimension.

Cheryl Hines: Yeah, exactly! It's a different layer, texture to it that you don't even think…you don't know , unless you're witnessing it.

SheKnows: That's a fascinating window into that world, thank you Cheryl!

Cheryl Hines: Sure!

SheKnows: Now, Serious Moonlight, it has such a great feel and pacing to it, I wondered if we'll see you back in the director's chair anytime soon?

Cheryl Hines: I hope so -- it's funny because when we were actually shooting I would have said that there is no way. It was just too hard. I didn't think I'd make it through the day. It was stressful. But, now that I've had a little perspective and I feel like I would want to do it again. It has to be the right thing.

SheKnows: It was a true pleasure to witness your first directorial work and it was a true pleasure to speak to you as well -- Cheryl, thank you so much.

Cheryl Hines: Thank you, Joel. Thank you very much.

New couple: John Mellencamp and Meg Ryan?

Newly single John Mellencamp, who just announced he is splitting from wife Elaine Irwin, has reportedly been spending time with Meg Ryan.

John Mellencamp

Rocker John Mellencamp just announced he is splitting from his wife of 18 years, Elaine Irwin, and has been spotted hanging out with Meg Ryan!

Mellencamp, 59, was spotted walking arm-in-arm in New York City with Ryan in late October, reports The New York Post. In fact, the actress has even been seen backstage while he has been on tour.

"Meg has been to a couple of recent shows," a source reported.

Mellencamp and Ryan have been working together on the musical Ghost Brothers of Darkling County, where she is voicing one of the characters. Is this where they struck up a relationship? Many are wondering what role Ryan played, if any, in the breakup of Mellencamp and Irwin.

Bob Merlis, Mellencamp's publicist, announced that he and Irwin were splitting up last week, but did not say if they were actually divorcing. "They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana but have decided to call it a day as a couple."

Ryan, who has starred in When Harry Met Sally, divorced Dennis Quaid in 2001 after admitting to an affair with Russell Crowe -- and alleging that Quaid had also been unfaithful.

Neither Merlis nor Ryan's rep has returned calls to the NY Post regarding their potential relationship, leaving us to wonder -- are they just pals? Or something more?

John Mellencamp is officially divorced and free to live in little pink houses with girlfriend Meg Ryan.

John Mellencamp Meg Ryan

It's official: rocker John Mellencamp and model Elaine Irwin have finalized their divorce.

This is good news for Meg Ryan. Already suffering from a badly sullied reputation after being busted cheating on Dennis Quaid with Russell Crowe, she was being blamed for being the other woman in this split. Now she can hold her head high while stepping out with a man who is truly single, both in word and deed.

The divorce -- Mellencamp's third -- was finalized on August 12 and the couple managed to negotiate "an amicable settlement of all issues involving property and maintenance rights, the custody and support of their children, and all other issues," according to court docs.

Mellencamp and Irwin will share joint legal custody of sons Hud and Speck, with Irwin maintaining primary physical custody.

Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp have been spotted in New York, Martha's Vineyard and his home base of Bloomington, Indiana since immediately after the split was announced last winter. Irwin has since been tied to Russell Simmons and media mogul Jay Penske, son of multi-millionaire Roger Penske.

Mariska Hargitay adopts another baby

There's a good reason why the Law & Order: SVU actress decided to cut back her working hours, and now we know why.

Mariska Hargitay and her husband, Peter Hermann, are proud parents of a new baby boy, Andrew Nicolas, according to People magazine.

"We never in a million years thought it would happen this quickly, but something inside of us knew that this was right, and we said 'Yes, yes, yes!'" the mom of three tells People.

"We knew this was our guy. Everything about it felt right. It felt divinely right."

The couple had also adopted a baby girl, Amaya Josephine, just six months ago, and have a biological child together, 5-year-old August.

Speaking about the decision to adopt their daughter Amaya earlier this year, the actress said that bringing her home was a perfect decision for their newly multi-racial family.

Hargitay said, "We were considering both international and domestic adoption and we're thrilled that this is the way our prayers were answered."

"We talked a lot about mixed-race adoptions and we are very excited that we are now a multi-racial family. We're just so happy she's here."

While some celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Meg Ryan have adopted their children from foreign countries such as Cambodia and China, many other stars have opted to adopt domestically, including Sandra Bullock and Denise Richards.

Richards, who kept her two-year-long adoption process "extremely quiet," says she was inspired to adopt a child from the U.S. after her own mother, Joni Richards, died of cancer. Bullock adopted her son, New Orleans-born Louis Bardo, shortly after her divorce from ex-husband Jesse James in 2010.

Congrats to Mariska on the new addition her family!

What happened to Billy Crystal's face?

Aging is one thing, but whatever was going on with Billy Crystal's face at the Oscars last night had nothing to do with the hands of time.

Okay people, let's get down to the real debate of the 2012 Academy Awards. Forget Angelina Jolie's leg and a very white Meryl Streep winning Best Actress over a very not white Viola Davis. Truly the most important thing we need to discuss today is what the hell did Billy Crystal do to his face?

Let's look at the progression of Crystal from normal human being to Juvederm slave, shall we?

When Harry Met Sally

Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in 1989 filming When Harry Met Sally…, back when they had normal faces. Now they both look like they've been attacked by puffer fish.

Billy Crystal

Crystal at the 2001 premiere of 61*. A gracefully aging man with graying hair and laugh lines -- but still normal looking.

Billy Crystal

Just three years later the transformation has begun: Far fewer crow's feet and suspiciously puffy cheeks.

Billy Crystal

In 2007 Crystal was looking more like his old self. He was much less puffy, his cheekbones weren't abnormally large anymore and you can even still see some wrinkles on his forehead.

Billy Crystal

This past January, Crystal showed up to a Lakers game looking like an elderly Vince Vaughn. He forgot his eyebrows at home.

Billy Crystal

Now Crystal is nearly unrecognizable from his former self. Eyes, cheeks, lips, all look puffy and lack the characteristics that gave his face the great "regular guy" appearance that made him so likable.

Of course, his When Harry Met Sally… costar hasn't fared much better. Meg Ryan's once-sweet, girl-next-door looks have become a caricature of her former self.

Celebrities remember Nora Ephron

Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep and Meg Ryan are just a few of the A-listers who spoke on behalf of the late Nora Ephron today.

Several celebrities who worked with the late Nora Ephron took to the Internet today to remember the Oscar-nominated writer-director. Ephron lost her battle with leukemia on Tuesday at the age of 71.

Meryl Streep worked with Ephron on the writer’s first screenplay, Silkwood. They also collaborated on Ephron’s last directorial effort, Julie & Julia.

"Nora was a person whose gifts of mind, amply displayed as a young person in her sharply observed journalistic pieces and in her personal wit, were, when I first met her, kind of scary: aimed and airy at the same time, an insouciant sharpness that could be intimidating, because you could never catch her ’trying,’ everything seemed effortless,” Streep said. “But as I got to know her, I understood what drove her was her acute curiosity, and her desire to observe and find out stuff. It’s what made her great as a journalist, and as a director, too."

That notion of Ephron being a journalist was reflected by Tom Hanks, who worked with Ephron on both Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail.

"Nora Ephron was a journalist/artist who knew what was important to know: how things really worked, what was worthwhile, who was fascinating and why,” Hanks said. “At a dinner table and on a film set, she lifted us all with wisdom and wit mixed with love for us and love for life. Rita [Wilson] and I are so very sad to lose our friend who brought so much joy to all who were lucky enough to know her."

Hanks’ frequent co-star, Meg Ryan, added, “Nora was an era. We pictured ourselves inside her dreams and they became ours. All wisdom, wit and sparkle lights, what a treat she was, what a blessing. I marvel again and again, what a life. ... To have created simple happiness in people, to have added to the sum of delight in the world."

How I Met Your Mother will officially live on through a spin-off titled How I Met Your Dad, and the CBS show will be voiced by none other than Meg Ryan, according to Variety.

Bob Saget ruins our Full House reunion dreams >>

The '90s darling's personal life and career took a dip in the early part of this century, when plastic surgery rumors seemed to trump the acting work she put out. However, it looks like things might be on the upswing for the blond beauty. The Sleepless in Seattle star has been quietly dating John Mellencamp since 2011, and she has been a series regular on Lisa Kudrow's Showtime comedy, Web Therapy, since 2013.

Not much is known about the spin-off, but at this point, it seems the incarnation will not share many similarities to its mother show. Actress Greta Gerwig has been cast to lead the project as a woman who becomes restless in her marriage. Nick D'Agosto of Masters of Sex and Andrew Santino of Mixology are also slated to star so far.

The writing of the pilot is in expert hands: It was co-written by Emily Spivey of Modern Family fame, and Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, who created How I Met Your Mother.

The end of HIMYM left fans feeling scared, lost and confused (just look at how Lindsay Lohan reacted), but many are wondering if attempting to recreate the magic of the first show will ease the pain or rub salt in the wounds. Some fans were excited at the concept of learning more about "the mother," played by Cristin Milioti, but at this point, there's no word of her being attached to the project.

What do you think? Will How I Met Your Dad be a hit or a miss?
